Key Verse: Exodus 6:6"Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.’"
Moses is discouraged. He obeyed God, confronted Pharaoh, and things only got worse. The Israelites have lost hope, and Moses himself is questioning God’s plan. But instead of rebuking Moses, God reassures him.
God speaks to Moses with a powerful declaration of who He is:
“I am the Lord.” (v. 2)
“I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (v. 3)
“I have heard the groaning of the people.” (v. 5)
“I will bring you out.” (v. 6)
“I will take you to be My people.” (v. 7)
This is God’s covenant faithfulness. Even when circumstances seem hopeless, He is still at work.
Moses delivers this message to the Israelites, but they are too broken to believe. Their suffering has crushed their faith. This is what hardship often does—it blinds us to the promises of God. When pain lingers too long, we stop expecting deliverance.
But God’s plan does not depend on human faithfulness. Even when the Israelites doubt, God is still moving. He commands Moses to go back to Pharaoh, but again, Moses hesitates: “Behold, the people of Israel have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?” (v. 12)
Moses is still focused on his own inadequacy. But this story isn’t about Moses’ ability—it’s about God’s power.
Maybe you feel like Moses today. You’ve obeyed, but nothing has changed. You’ve prayed, but the situation seems the same. But remember: God is still working, even when you don’t see it.
His promises will never fail. Deliverance is not a matter of if—it’s only a matter of when. Keep trusting, because God always keeps His word.
