Key Verse: Exodus 14:14"The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent."
Freedom has begun, but Israel’s journey is just getting started. As they follow God’s presence—the pillar of cloud by day and fire by night—they come to an unexpected obstacle: the Red Sea.
Behind them, Pharaoh has changed his mind. He gathers his army—his best chariots, his strongest soldiers—and races toward Israel to bring them back. The people, trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army, are terrified.
Fear takes over.
"Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us here to die?" they cry to Moses. They have just witnessed God’s power in Egypt, yet in this moment, they doubt. They assume they are doomed.
But Moses gives them a powerful truth:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
A Path Through the Sea
God speaks: “Tell the people to go forward.”
Then, He does the impossible.
Moses stretches out his staff, and the waters of the Red Sea divide. A dry path opens before them, and the Israelites walk through on dry ground, with walls of water on both sides.
Pharaoh’s army follows, but God fights for His people.
He throws the Egyptians into confusion.
Their chariot wheels get stuck.
Panic sets in.
Then, God tells Moses to stretch out his hand again. The waters crash back down, and Pharaoh’s army is destroyed.
Not one of them survives.
A Lesson for Us
God didn’t bring Israel out of Egypt just to leave them stranded. He made a way when there was no way.
This is what He does for us. When we are trapped, when the enemy is near, when fear tells us we are defeated—God is still in control.
We see obstacles—He sees a path.
We feel surrounded—He fights for us.
We panic—He tells us to be still.
Israel walked through the Red Sea by faith, just as we walk through life’s battles by trusting in God.
Are you facing an impossible situation? Remember: The Lord will fight for you. Be still. Trust Him. Move forward in faith.
