Key Verse: Numbers 24:9
"Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you."
Numbers 24 is the climax of Balaam’s prophecies over Israel. After repeatedly attempting to curse Israel at King Balak’s request, Balaam is now completely overtaken by the Spirit of God—and instead of curses, he speaks a powerful blessing over Israel.
This chapter reminds us that when God has decided to bless His people, nothing and no one can stop it.
Balaam’s Third Oracle: Israel’s Strength and Victory
As Balaam looked over the Israelite camp, the Spirit of God came upon him (Numbers 24:2). He no longer tried to manipulate the message—he simply declared what God revealed:
Israel is like a flourishing garden, blessed by God (Numbers 24:5-6).
God has made them strong, like a lion that cannot be defeated (Numbers 24:8-9).
Those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse them will be cursed (Numbers 24:9).
This final blessing was too much for Balak to handle. He furiously sent Balaam away, frustrated that instead of cursing Israel, Balaam had only proclaimed their victory and favor.
What This Teaches Us
God’s blessing cannot be reversed—what He has spoken will stand.
When we align with God’s will, He makes us spiritually strong.
God’s favor protects His people from harm and opposition.
Balaam’s Final Prophecy: The Coming of the Messiah
Before leaving, Balaam gave one final prophecy—one that pointed to the coming of Jesus Christ.
“I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near.”
“A star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel” (Numbers 24:17).
This prophecy foretells the coming of the Messianic King—Jesus, the "Star" from Jacob, who would one day bring salvation and judgment.
Why This Matters
God’s promises extend beyond the present—His plans are eternal.
Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s blessing and victory.
What Balaam meant for selfish gain, God turned into a prophetic declaration of salvation.
Final Thought
Numbers 24 shows us that:
God’s blessings are unstoppable—when He speaks, His word stands.
Opposition cannot change God’s plan for His people.
Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise—our King and Redeemer.
Are you walking in the confidence of God’s blessing, or are you fearing the words and opposition of others? When God is for you, nothing can stand against you. Trust in His promises, knowing that His favor cannot be overturned.
